Goodtimes8Thank you, Nandi Mngoma! The song ‘Goodtimes‘ and its colorful visualization are wonderful gifts that remind us to enjoy the good times we have in our lifes. The South African musician Nandi Mngoma and actress has released her debut album ‘Nandi‘ just last year in December and her track ‘Goodtimes‘ has become a hit on South African dancefloors. She has recently collaborated with DJ Kent, to create the soulful ‘Breeze‘, another promising South-African House track.

‘Alkoan Baladi/ الكون بلدي’ – Débruit & Alsarah

Alkoan BaladiThis is surely one of the most interesting musical projects of this year! Sudanese artist Al Sarah is pushing again the boundaries of musical imagination. The artist – known from The Nubatones, The Sounds of Taraab and her contributions to ‘The Bead‘ – has now teamed up with French sound engineer Débruit, to create the eclectic Sudanese sound project ‘Aljawal/ الجوال’ (The Traveller). The project started some time ago as Al Sarah writes: “A few years ago I met Débruit and we wrote a song together, inspired by Sudan, but a child of our global experience.” We will soon be able to enjoy the fruits of this collaboration.

The LP will be available for purchase on November 11 2013 but the first released song ‘Alkoan Baladi/ الكون بلدي’ gives us an idea of the amazing sound we can expect from the album. Pre-order your copy of the LP via Soundway Records.

‘Running’ – Matshidiso

Running3I got to know about Matshidiso’s video for ‘Running‘ through a AfriPop-post. Matshidiso (pronounced Mat-see-dee-so, a South African name meaning blessing or consolation) is an upcoming UK-born & bred Neo-Soul/ Folk/ Jazz artist, we will definitely need to follow in future. In the video for her neo-soulish song ‘Running‘ she takes us to the South African metropolis of Johannesburg. As she is running through the everyday life of Joburg, she passes by famous sites, like the Ponte City Apartments, the Johannesburg Stadium or the Orlando Towers in Soweto.

Wetin dey happen?! #13

AbakulimbalimbaWetin dey happen on African dancefloors? Today I would like to share with you five danceable songs from Nigeria, Cameroon, Burundi, South Africa and Uganda. At first, ‘Kumba Market‘ by Magasco from Cameroon, a song which is surprisingly not very famous outside Cameroon. Then, Nigerian Kcee (popular for his ‘Limpopo‘ track) dropped a beautiful video for his track ‘Okoso‘. We continue with a brand-new video for South African Big Nuz‘ Kwaito track ‘Inazo‘ before we listen to Kidum‘s tune ‘Enjoy‘ from Burundi. Finally, we get to Uganda for the Reggae tune ‘Abakulimbalimba‘ by Bobi Wine & Nubian Li.
