Fredy Masamba – ‘Nkembo’ (Feat. Muthoni the Drummer Queen) & ‘Unity’ (Feat. Tumi Molekane)

FREDDY MASSAMbaFredy Massamba, born and raised in the Congo-Brazzaville, seems to know how to network. On his sophomore album ‘Makasi‘, he was able to get features with two very popular African artists: Kenyan Muthoni The Drummer Queen and South African Tumi Molekane. Massamba gained international popularity with his debut LP ‘Ethnophony‘ and seems to continue this path very successfully. While ‘Nkembo‘ (‘Ambience’ in Kingongo) shines with Congo-influenced Afro-Soul, ‘Unity‘ is rather an example of his experimental and innovative sound.

Introducing: Catrin Finch & Seckou Keita

catrin clychauThe sound which Catrin Finch and Seckou Keita create in fusing Manding Kora music from West Africa and ancient melodies from Wales is captivating! The Senegalese-Welsh collaboration culminated in the production of the brilliant album ‘Clychau Dibon‘, a nearly perfect melange of two music cultures that seem so different but yet sound so beautiful when blended together.

Finch is a globally celebrated Harpist, while Keita is a master of the West African Kora. Together they create music that transcends cultural boundaries, showing once again how valuable such collaborations are. At the end, our musical cultures are not that much different and it seems that melodies can sometimes communicate much easier with each other than humans.

Listen below to the album ‘Clychau Dibon‘ and watch one of their live performances.

‘Crazy Love’ – E.L (Feat. Ice Prince)

E.L-Crazy-Love-ArtDo you remember how well the year started when Diamond and Davido released their wonderful Tanzanian-Nigerian collabo for the track ‘Number On (Remix)‘? Here is another nice African collaboration track, taken from EL‘s freshly released Mixtape ‘Songs For Girls 2: The Crazy Love Mixtape‘. My favourite track of the excellent mixtape is the sweet ‘Crazy Love‘, in which you can hear Ice Prince (‘Aboki‘) singing alongside EL about how crazy they are in love. This tune is truly crazy, Chale!

You can listen to and download the entire mixtape for free via Soundcloud.
